Abstract

ABSTRACT

Accurate identification of animals is essential for many reasons including effective management of livestock at global level. Animal recognition techniques are classified as per features and its durability. Traditionally applied procedures for identity marks include hot and cold freezing; tattoos, ear tags and notch ears but biometric system are used mainly retina pattern and molecular marker. In RFID tags radio waves have been used to transmit animal identification information. Any method applied mark an animal involve stress to some extent. Additionally, some common marking processes also involve tissue damaging and therefore may cause pain, like heat, cold or chemicals branding. Biometric methods have been developed to identify animals based on their physical characteristics. Some of these methods have been used for some time for reliable identification of humans. In this paper we will discuss some the widely used methods of Animal Identification.
