Abstract

Cyberspace refers to a network of computers and associated equipment that spans the globe and has become an integral part of daily life. As countries become increasingly dependent on this interconnected system, cybercrime has emerged as a major concern. Social media, online shopping, and banking have all contributed to the rise of cyber-attacks, which can have significant strategic consequences by providing attackers with access to networks and sensitive information. Recent incidents involving the nuclear infrastructure in Iran and India have highlighted the dangers of cyber-attacks. Cyber-attacks have targeted various sectors, including banks, hospitals, and government websites, resulting in identity theft and hacking. To combat this growing problem, it is crucial to identify the latest cyber threats and explore the best ways to address them. This paper provides a comprehensive discussion of cybercrime in Pakistan, including its various forms and outcomes. It also examines the Prevention of Electronic Act - 2016, a necessary legislation in a society where information technology has become an integral aspect of daily life. The study also highlights the exploitation of this act and the loopholes in the existing infrastructure. Furthermore, the paper analyzes the effectiveness of measures required to mitigate the latest cyber threats, explains the measures that have been implemented, and identifies additional countermeasures needed to combat this threat. It is crucial to make dedicated efforts to address the cyber threat in an appropriate manner and take necessary steps to protect sensitive information and networks.
